  In Tuesday’s class session we met for the 2nd to last time to put on the student showcase of all of the creative film projects. One of them that really stuck with me was the one titled Unraveling. The film starts with a futuristic community where a group of black people in ultra-modern attire congregate in a circle and begin to go about a magic ritual. The plot pivots to a contemporary urban setting where a black young couple pulls into a parking garage and is in a state of disagreement. The black young woman is in a state of frustration and irritation as she is upset by her boyfriend's friendship with someone whom she disapproves of; however, her boyfriend defends his friend. On the premise that since he’s had this friendship for so long, he knows that this friend has character integrity. Later, the black male and his white friend (whom Denise disapproves of) are getting high on the couch into the early hours of the morning. The white friend goes to condemn the television which ...
